Hey, how’s it going?
You hear this question about eighteen hundred times a day. Isn’t it swell? Hey, how are you? Great, how are you? I’m good. How was your weekend? Good, how was yours? Hey man, how are you? Good, good. And yourself? ARE YOU TIRED YET? Wow it never stops. Work life, without the constant useless chatter of fake socialization is enough as is. And then nearly every employed human forces themselves, and others, to engage in this nonsense. I have one ask of everyone. PLEASE STOP. It is awful. What is the actual point in lying to someone? And even asking in the first place? Just to make noise? Is it so enticing you must peel back the wrapper of verbal refuse? I truly do not understand it and I’m willing to bet you don’t know either. If you actually think about it. Words, speaking, communication is supposed to have value. Value added conversations help engage humans in knowledge and curiosity. Chattering like tic tacs wastes time, energy, and provides every person a constant use of simple and mundane lies. These are taxing conversations, where nothing is even said. They asked about how good, you answered good, you both moved on. Really? Actually have a conversation with someone. Or don’t talk to them. It’s simple. Humanity is supposed to move on from idiocy, from primates, yet are we not still hairless monkeys? Birds chirp for sex, dogs bark for protection, whales sing to locate and love. Humans yack just because we’re ‘free’ to do so. Please engage, ask them a real question, consume yourself in their being as they consume yours. Well, seems like enough. Go ahead and forget this the next time you walk down the hall and say good to your coworker you don’t even know.
